The ‘5% Dextrose and 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection USP, 1000 mL, 12/CS – L6100’ is a vital medical solution used for intravenous administration. It is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply in single dose containers for intravenous administration.
Each 1000 mL of the solution contains 5g Dextrose Hydrous, USP and 9g Sodium Chloride, USP. The solution is hypertonic with an osmolarity of 586 mOsmol/L (calc) and contains 154 mEq/L of Sodium and Chloride.
The solution is packed in a flexible, non-vented, single-use container, which ensures the sterility of the solution. It does not contain any bacteriostat, antimicrobial agent or added buffer. The pH of the solution is 4.5 (3.5 to 6.5).
The Dextrose provides a source of calories while the Sodium Chloride in the solution helps in electrolyte replenishment. It is ideal for patients with a variety of conditions including dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
